Halloween Festivities!

We will be celebrating Halloween on Wednesday next week. If you would like to help out I have sent a note home to all parents in the Friday Folder. Just send me a message or email me your thoughts.
We will begin decorating and prepping for the party at 11:30.

Here is the party plan:
12:30-Spooky Story
12:45 or sooner-Students will begin putting on costumes. (Parents will assist)
1:00-Party Games and Activities (Parents will assist)
2:00-Parade begins. Our class is the "leader" of the parade. You can come watch if you like. There will be seating available in the hallway and cafeteria.
2:45-3:00 Students will begin packing up costumes and belongings.
3:00-Recess
3:30-Prepare to go home

DonorsChoose.org

I recently wrote a DonorsChoose grant to get approximately $300 in storytelling materials. If you or a relative would like to donate to this grant it will increase my chances of getting it fully funded. The grant will be up on the DonorsChoose.org website within five days after review. Today I recieved a message that any donations will be matched prior to October 15th when the code PUMPKIN is entered at the checkout. So if you can give five dollars, they will donate another five dollars toward this project for our classroom. Below is the message. I hope you can help me drum up some excitement and get these great materials for the class. They include storytelling materials for nonfiction science books by Gail Gibbons as well as story materials for Ezra Jack Keets' A Snowy Day, Audrey Wood's Quick as a Cricket and many other favorites.

Directions:

This week, our Board of Directors will match every donation you receive from friends and family. You can still participate even if you don't have a project posted right now.

Send folks to http://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/604363, where they can get you a gift card to help with your next project. If they enter the match code PUMPKIN, we'll double their gift.

Counting to 100!

When your child is counting do they get stuck on the teen numbers? Does this sound familiar, "...11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20..." This type of error is very typical and both of my own children did this for, what seemed like, a REALLY long time. We put up the teen numbers in the house, just write them on a piece of paper and put it on your refrigerator. Have them touch the numbers 11-20 as they say them. You will be surprised how much this helps them get past those "Tricky Teens," as I like to call them. Before you know it your child will be counting past the teens and to 100!
